PORTLAND, Ore.—Looking to keep pace with the leaders in the CCC standings, the No. 20-ranked Concordia University volleyball team defeated Evergreen State 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-16) on Saturday evening inside the Cavalier Gymnasium.

With the win, Concordia improved to 18-4 on the season and 11-2 in league play. Evergreen fell to 3-14 overall and 2-10 in conference matches.

The Cavaliers will next take the court on Friday, Oct. 25 with a showdown against the league-leading Mountaineers of Eastern Oregon University. EOU, ranked No. 9 in the NAIA, defeated Concordia in Portland with a five-set thriller earlier in the year. Eastern Oregon (21-3, 11-1 CCC) will face the Cavs immediately after their first CCC loss of the season as College of Idaho upset the Mountaineers 3-1 in La Grande, Ore., on Friday.

Taking the first five points, the Cavs led wire-to-wire in the opening set, hitting .423 against a 0.067 rate for the visiting Geoducks.

Evergreen enjoyed a two-point lead at 6-4 and stayed close through the first half of the second set before a nine-point string boosted CU to the 25-17 win. With the scored tied 9-9, Brenna Huwe (Troutdale, Ore./Reynolds H.S.) swung for three kills and Lindsay Mangan (Huntington Beach, Calif./Marina H.S.) served up a pair of aces to help CU to an 18-9 lead before finishing with an eight-point gap.

The Cavs jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the third with kills by Mariah Raudsepp (Dundee, Ore./C.S. Lewis Academy) and Brianna Hogan (Portland, Ore./Centennial H.S.). At 7-6, Evergreen closed to within a point on a Victoria Love ace but the Cavs once again limited to Geoducks' offense, this time to a .065 attack rate over the final set for the 25-16 clinching victory.

Keyed by 11 kills each from Melanie Miller (Hillsboro, Ore./Liberty H.S.) and Huwe, the Cavs finished with a .360 hitting percentage. Miller hit .526 in the match with just a single attacking error in 19 swings. Raudsepp added nine kills while Hogan and Amanda Goringe (Aloha, Ore./Aloha H.S.) chipped in with four each.

Love, the CCC leader at 3.74 kills per set, was right on her average as she paced the Geoucks with 11 kills on the night. Teammate Brittany Covert finished second on the team with six kills while fellow Geoduck Kelsey Delegrange was credited with a team-high 25 assists.

With 33 assists, Mangan moved into the No. 2 position on CU's all-time leaderboard. Mangan now has 3,563 career assists to move ahead of former Cavalier's Andrea Ruen's (2003-06) 3,543 total. Former great Mindy Wallis (1999-2002) holds the career record with 4,294 assists after averaging a school record 12.13 assists per match during her four-year career.
