Luckless Knights Fall to Evergreen at Home
PORTLAND, Ore. - For the fifth time this season Warner Pacific found themselves on the wrong end of a one-goal defeat, this time 2-1 at the hands of Evergreen today at David Douglas High School.
The host Knights (3-7, 2-6 CCC) tallied the first goal of the contest in the 18th minute.
Jameson Jones took a centering pass from
Almir Celebic and scored from eight yards away.
The Geoducks (5-5-3, 3-4-2 CCC) answered with a pair of goals that came just four minutes apart. Greg Wolf headed in a long crossing pass from Alberto Brand at the far post in the 32nd minute. Willie Spurr provided the game winner in the 36th minute as he found space from ten yards away and hit his target.
The second period was played mostly in the middle of the pitch, with WPC searching for the equalizer in the final moments.
Ruben Amezcua cracked a curling shot in the 72nd minute but his effort clanged off the crossbar. Evergreen goalkeeper Mauricio Sanchez parried away a dangerous shot from
Alberto Casas in the 81st minute to help preserve the conference win for the Geoducks.
COMING UP: Warner Pacific will travel to Northwest Christian next Wednesday, October 23 for a clash with the Beacons. Evergreen will host College of Idaho on Friday the 25th.
