Men's Soccer Modified RPI Rankings Announced
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Rio Grande (Ohio) earns its NAIA-leading third No. 1 ranking in the second NAIA Men's Soccer Modified Ratings Percentage Index (MRPI) of the 2013 season. The 11-1-2 Red Storm, who earned their first No. 1 ranking of 2013 in this week’s NAIA Men’s Soccer Coaches’ Top 25 poll, also become just the second men’s soccer program to top the MRPI in different seasons.
Since 2010, six different teams have held the No. 1 position in a MRPI poll: Rio Grande (3), Hastings (Neb.) (3), Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) (2), former member Simon Fraser (B.C.) (2), Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) (1) and Mobile (Ala.) (1).
Texas at Brownsville, which fell out of the Top 25 this week, was the highest mentioned team in the MRPI that was not ranked in the most recent coaches’ poll. The Ocelots, who are 10-2-2 on the season, ranked No. 15 in the MRPI.
The MRPI consists of the team’s modified winning percentage, their opponents’ winning percentage and the cumulative ratings points from the NAIA Men’s Soccer Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. Each of the three values has a weighted percentage calculated in the MRPI. The MRPI modifies the value of home/away/neutral results and adds more value for games against opponents ranked in their respective national poll.
For a complete description of the MRPI formula, go to Appendix D in the Soccer Coaches’ Manual, or click

The MRPI—first adopted in 2010—will select the at-large qualifying teams and seed the 32-team national championship field. For a complete NAIA Men’s Soccer Modified Ratings Percentage Index calendar, click

Nov. 17.
