PORTLAND, Ore.—Rebounding from a stinging loss in double overtime last Saturday, the Concordia men's soccer team broke a scoreless half with four goals in a 13-minute span to defeat No. 20-ranked Corban University 5-0 at Tuominen Yard on Wednesday.

The loss was the first defeat for Corban (10-1-3, 7-1-2 CCC) this season as the Warriors entered the match as the last remaining undefeated team in the NAIA. Avenging a 3-0 loss in Salem against the Warriors, Concordia improved to 10-4-0 overall and 7-3-0 in conference play.

Repeating action from the previous match between the two teams where the halftime break was met without a goal, Concordia ended the string in the 53rd minute of play as Septi Danciu (Bristita, Romania/Evergreen H.S.) scored his 12th goal of the season. Corban goalkeeper Jordan Farr originally came up with the save on the play, deflecting the initial shot up in the air, but Danciu following his own shot for the easy put in before the Warriror defense could clear the ball.

Less than two minutes later, freshman Timur Zhividze (Bobrov, Russia/Evergreen H.S.) placed his sixth goal of the year on a 20-yard boom into the upper right corner after collecting the ball off a misplay by the Warrior defense. Jordan Green (Portland, Ore./Grant H.S.) soon gave the Cavs a 3-0 lead with a bounding touch near the goal line after a delivery from Radcliffe McDougald (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island H.S.) from the right side.

Intercepting a pass in the attacking third, McDougald returned in the 66th minute with a touch from the right side, sending the ball to Ben Culpan (Auckland, New Zealand/Napier Boys H.S.), who sprinted pass the defender and sent the ball past Farr for the 4-0 advantage. With an assist from Zhividze, Kevin Fischer (Stuttgart, Germany/Akademie für Kommunikation) closed out the Concordia count with a goal in the 87th minute of play.

Overall, Concordia outshot the Warriors 21-to-12 while gaining a 4-to-2 edge in corner kicks. Arne Niermann (Lippstadt, Germany/Privates Gymnasium Marienschule), making his first appearance of the year, stopped three shots to pick up the win while Farr, who entered the game having allowed just two goals for an NAIA-leading 0.08 goals against average, had eight saves in the loss.

McDougald nearly put the Cavs ahead in the first half with a shot that bounced off the crossbar in the 29th minute. The output was the fifth time this season Concordia has scored five or more goals in a game, but did not match the team's best offensive half as CU scored six goals in the opening half against College of Idaho on Sept. 28.

Corban created two opportunities to score, with Eliseo Santana unleashing a shot from 30 yards out just wide of the goal in the 17th minute of play and Bobby Hutchin sending a dangerous shot high of the goal in the game's final minute.

Concordia will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 26 when it hosts Northwest Christian University. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Tuominen Yard. Earlier in the day, Corban will return to the pitch to host the Knights of Warner Pacific.
