WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The Eastern Oregon University won its season opener by defeating Walla Walla University, 104-48, on Tuesday evening. The Mountaineers shot 54.1 percent from the floor to cruise to a 56 point victory.

Taylor Riley led the way for EOU as she was nine-for-fourteen shooting for 19 points. Riley also led the team with nine rebounds. Jeni Hoffert followed with 16 points and Nicole Redd scored 13 points and dished out seven assists.

The Mountaineers started out on fire as they shot 45.9 percent in the first half of the game and held the Wolves to shoot 10.3 percent in the half. Walla Walla scored the first two points of the game before the Mountaineers took control.

Leading the way for the Mountaineers in the first half were Redd and Hoffert. Both players scored 11 points in the first half of the game. Redd shot three-of-four from behind the arc and Hoffernt was two-of-five.

The hot shooting Mountaineers took a 46-10 lead into halftime. EOU made six three pointers in the first half and outrebounded the Wolves 31-20, while forcing Walla Walla into 15 turnovers.

Eastern Oregon's hot shooting continued in the second half as the Mountaineers shot 62.2 percent from the floor. EOU extended its lead to 63 points with just over 10 minutes to go in the second half.

For the game the Mountaineers shot 54.1 percent, while holding the Wolves to 26.1 percent shooting. EOU forced the Wolves into 27 turnovers for the game. EOU claimed its season opener, 104-48, over Walla Walla.

EOU returns to action this Friday, Oct. 25, when they host New Hope Christian College at 2 p.m. PT at Quinn Coliseum.
