LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team won its third straight game to start the 2013-14 season with a, 68-43, over New Hope Christian College on Saturday afternoon. Taylor Riley led EOU with 16 points.
Nicole Redd started off on fire for the Mountaineers as she scored the first five points of the contest. The Mountaineers started to pull away as they led, 10-3, but the Deacons had a different idea and mounted a small comeback.
New Hope Christian cut the Mountaineers lead down to three, 15-12, after a jumper by Lei Lolohea. However, EOU extended the lead back out to ten points, 22-12. The Deacons continued to battle and took the lead after a three pointer by Taya Harbick, making the score 26-25.
This was the only lead of the game for the Deacons in the game, and EOU took a 38-29 lead into halftime.
Eastern Oregon continued to dominate in the second half of the game. EOU held the Deacons to 14 points in the second half.
With just under ten minutes left in the match, EOU led 50-36, after a jumper by Riley. The Mountaineers grew the lead to as many as 22 after a Maloree Moss layup. The Mountaineers never looked back and won the game, 68-43.
Eastern Oregon returns to action next Friday, Nov. 1, when they travel to Spokane, Wash. to play in the Spokane Classic. EOU plays MSU-Northern at 7 p.m.
