LA GRANDE, Ore. – Placing four on the women’s list and one on the men’s list, the Cascade Conference was well represented on the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District Men’s and Women’s Soccer Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and announced on Thursday.
Warner Pacific junior Almir Celebic earned honors on the men’s team to represent the CCC. The junior from Portland, Ore. holds a 3.75 grade-point average as a biology major in addition to leading the Knights in scoring with four goals and six assists this season. He was one of just 11 players selected from District four, which encompasses 14 states and all of Canada.
On the women’s list, Northwest Christian landed two on the Academic-All District list as senior Jacque Bundtrock and junior Linsey Johnson represented the Beacons. Eastern Oregon senior keeper Kailey Moss and Southern Oregon senior Sydney Paulsen also earned honors, making them eligible for the prestigious Academic All-America ballot.
Bundtrock, a native of Boise, Idaho, holds a 3.87 grade-point average as an exercise science major at NCU. She also had one goal and three assists on the season heading into Thursday’s match with number-one Concordia. Johnson, a defender from Gearhart, Ore., holds a 3.86 grade-point average as a psychology major, as well as holding down the back line for the Beacons.
Moss, a biochemistry major from Springfield, Ore., holds a 3.97 grade-point average at EOU as well as a 1.14 goals-against average between the pipes for the Mountaineers. Paulsen, a native of Loveland, Colo. and the leading scorer for Southern Oregon with six goals and three assists, holds a 3.74 grade-point average in biochemistry.
All five athletes advance to the Capital One Academic All-America team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected in November.
