PORTLAND, Ore.—Travelling to face a team that has won 12 straight contests, defending CCC champion College of Idaho upended No. 19-ranked Concordia 3-1 (21-25, 25-19, 25-22, 27-25) on Friday night inside the Cavalier Gymnasium.

The Yotes fell in the first set before reeling off three straight wins for the road win which moved C of I to 6-8 on the season and 6-2 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Concordia, meanwhile, fell to 14-2 (7-1 CCC) on the season and not only lost their first match of the season, but its first sets against CCC foes.

The Cavaliers trailed 3-0 in the first set before scratching out a 25-21 win behind five kills each from Mariah Raudsepp (Dundee, Ore./C.S. Lewis Academy) and Melanie Miller (Hillsboro, Ore./Liberty H.S.).

The Yotes took command early in the second; generating a 5-1 lead off an Elisa Brochado kill. The Cavs climbed back to tie the set at 8-8 and briefly took the lead at 10-9 off a CI error, but the Coyotes used a 6-1 run spree en route to the 25-19 win.

Concordia finally got on the board first in the third set and enjoyed a 3-1 early lead only to see C of I score seven straight points with a pair of kills coming off the arm of Liz Myers. The Cavs rallied to within to within two with the score 24-22, but an attacking error doomed the comeback attempt.

Looking to even the match at two sets apiece, Concordia maintained a small leads through most of the fourth set and created two chances at set point. A kill by Jackie Stein (Portland, Ore./Westview H.S.) gave CU a 24-23 advantage before Myers retaliated with a termination of her own to knot the set at 24-all.

Amanda Goringe (Aloha, Ore./Aloha H.S.) got into the act with a strike for a 25-24 Concordia lead but the team would not earn another point as two offensive errors and a kill by Kylee Nawahine closed out the match for the Coyotes.

Overall, C of I held Concordia to a .172 hitting percentage, including a dismal .085 and .048 in the middle sets. The Yotes hit .248 on the night and .267 in the final set.

Myers led all attackers with 17 kills and was closely followed by Brochado (15) and Nawahine (12). Concordia also had three players reach double figures in kills with Raudsepp (16), Stein (13) and Goringe (10) leading the way.

In a battle of top setters, CI's Sierra Porter edged CU's Lindsay Mangan (Huntington Beach, Calif./Marina H.S.) 50 to 49. Concordia's Shantel Gritcsch pulled in a match-high 39 digs to 25 each for College of Idaho counterparts Sofia Anxo and Janel Porter.

Concordia will resume action on Saturday when it hosts No. 11-ranked Eastern Oregon. College of Idaho will stay in town to face Warner Pacific College with both matches beginning at 7 p.m. in Portland.
