ASHLAND -- The Southern Oregon University volleyball team got exactly what it hoped for to start its homestand: a couple of much-needed breezy wins.

The Northwest Eagles were the second opponent to go down in straight sets against the Raiders at Bob Riehm Arena in as many nights Saturday as SOU notched a 25-16, 25-18, 25-17 win that was never in doubt.

The Raiders went to 6-3 in Cascade Conference play and 9-7 overall, their first time getting two games over the .500 mark this season. Northwest (6-11, 2-5) was swept for the seventh time in eight matches and lost its 20th straight match against SOU.

Mona Goudarzian and Paulla Pinheiro spearheaded another strong hitting night for the Raiders with 17 and 13 kills, respectively. Goudarzian had an attacking average of .455 and Pinheiro .478, helping the Raider attack at .282 as a team.

Renee Yomtob recorded 24 digs while Pinheiro and Brookelynn Cole had nine each. Lauren McGowne hooked up 38 assists, bringing her total to 88 on the weekend at an average of 14.7 per set.

Hannah Hanson had eight kills for Northwest, which hit .126.

The Raiders quickly erased a 3-0 deficit in the first set and never trailed in the second or third.

The next leg of SOU's five-match homestand will take place next Friday against Oregon Tech.
