PORTLAND, Ore.—Hitting 8-of-10 free throws in the final two minutes, Simpson secured an 81-75 road win at Concordia in women's basketball action on Sunday afternoon.

Simpson trailed 43-40 at the break, but forced Concordia into 11 turnovers in the second half en route to the six-point win in CU's season opener.

The Red Hawks overcame a slow start as Concordia jumped out to an 8- lead with six quick points from Caitlyn McCutcheon (Portland, Ore./St. Mary's Academy). The Cavs held a double-digit advantage at 13-3 following a Lexi Campbell (Brentwood, Calif./Heritage H.S.) 3-pointer, but Simpson clawed back, eventually taking their first lead of the game (33-32) on a Kaity Hahn 3-pointer at the 5:20 mark.
Concordia held a five-point lead with less than a second remaining in the first half only to see Esther Wofford connect on a pair of free throws following a Concordia foul.

After scoring 20 points on the first half, McCutcheon helped CU establish an eight-point lead (53-45) on a jumper with 16 minutes remaining in the second half. Simpson's Hahn and Nichole Jones combined for 19 second-half points to retake the lead with 12:07 remaining.

The Cavs would tie the game on three occasions down the stretch, the final occurrence with the score 71-71 with 2:20 remaining, but would not muster enough to overtake the Red Hawks in the final minutes.

Shooting 11-of-14 from the field for 32 points, including 20 in the first half, McCutcheon annihilated her previous career record of 12 points. Lacey Nicholson (Sammamish, Wash./Skyline H.S.) added 10 and Lexi Cambell in their CU debuts.

Jones finished with 21 points to lead Simpson while Hahn ended the afternoon with 14.
The two teams combined for 69 free throw attempts with Simpson gaining one extra attempt. Concordia however, converted 79.4 (27-of-34) percent of their chances to 68.6 (24-0f-35) percent for the visitors.

Concordia returns to action in Nov. 16 when it travels to face Menlo College in Atherton, Calif.
