Burson, the freshman from California, led the team with a double-double tonight Frey's Free-throw Lifts Eagles Over Warriors. 11/14/2013 9:45:26 PM ROCKLIN, Calif. – Northwest University's Kristen Frey's free throw with one second remaining gave the Eagles a narrow 64-63 victory over William Jessup on the Warriors' home court tonight. Northwest arrived just 40 minutes before tip off due to heavy rush hour traffic in the Sacramento-Rocklin area. NU's Jordan Asher would hit a big three pointer with 41 seconds remaining to tie the score at 63-63. After and NU timeout, Kristen Frey would come through with a big block of Nicole McDonald's shot with 29 seconds to go. Paige Burson would miss a shot for NU, but she would grab her own rebound only to have her shot blocked by McDonald with 12 seconds left. Domi Mendezona would grab the ball and put up a shot with 2 seconds to go that would miss the mark and Frey would get the offensive rebound only to be fouled by Ashley Rose with one tick left on the clock. Frey's first shot would drop through, but she would miss her second. WJU's Sarah Peterson would grab the rebound but it would be too late as the buzzer would sound giving the Eagles their 4th win of the season. The game would be close throughout as William Jessup would hold a narrow lead throughout the first half until Sanda Milovic would hit a three pointer with 51 seconds to go to pull NU to within two points. With 13 seconds to go, Chanara Greene would enter the game for the Eagles and would make a key steal with 3 seconds on the clock, score the lay-in to tie the score at 35-all as the buzzer sounded ending the half. Paige Burson scored 16 of her 18 points in the first half and Sanda Milovic scored 13 of her 15 as the pair would combine for 29 of NU's 35 points. Northwest U. (4-1) was led by Burson's 18 points and as the freshman added 12 rebounds for the double-double. Milovic scored 15 and Domi Medezona score 12 points, 11 in the second half and handed out a game high 6 assists. Jordan Asher added 9 points for the Eagles with 7 coming in the second half. Northwest held a 40-28 rebounding margin over the Warriors. Sarah Peterson led William Jessup with 18 points and 14 rebounds while teammate Ashley Rose added 15 points. Nicole McDonald added 12 points for the Warriors who shot 35% for the game. "It was a good win for us and a solid effort by the entire team tonight," said NU coach, Ken Crawford. "It was a challenge just getting to Rocklin from Kirkland after the game was moved from Redding, but our ladies really showed a lot of heart and resolve tonight after the long road trip. We continue to improve and we're being rewarded for team's hard work." The Eagles now travel to Redding to meet Simpson University tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. before heading back to Kirkland.
