Simpson Pulls Away to Defeat Northwest
REDDING, Calif. - Simpson would get a 6-0 run in the second half to break open a close game and defeat Northwest University, 70-58, in the Simpson Tournament tonight. The Northwest women split their two game road trip going 1-1.
Simpson held a narrow 46-42 lead with 8:44 to go in the game, but a 6-0 Hawk run would stretch their lead to 10, 52-42 as Melanie Shank would drain a 3 pointer. 8 points would be the closest Northwest would get the remainder of the game as Simpson would increase their lead to 16 with 1:30 to go on a Katy Hahn jumper in the lane.
Freshman Paige Burson led Northwest U. (4-2) for the second straight night with 16 points. Sanda Milovic added 15 points and Chanara Greene scored a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Northwest was limited to 33% shooting but out rebounded the Hawks 44-35. The Eagles committed 25 turnovers tonight to Simpson's 23.
Nicole Jones led Simpson (4-2) with 19 points and teammate Tiffany Asserude added 11 points. Simpson shot 40% for the game hitting 23 of their 57 shots.
Northwest will return to Kirkland and play again on Nov. 23when they travel to St. Martin's in Lacey, Wash., for a non-conference contest.
