LA GRANDE, Ore. – With the top four teams in the standings meeting on the final day of the regular season, the field for the 2013 Cascade Collegiate Conference Women’s Soccer Championship presented by U.S. Bank has been set and will begin on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013.
For the first time, the field expands to six teams in 2013, providing the top two teams in the regular season standings with first-round byes and a trip directly to the CCC Semifinals.
The top seed goes to Concordia University, who finished the regular season with a perfect 9-0-0 record in conference and a record of 15-1-1. The Cavaliers, ranked number one nationally in the NAIA Top 25 poll, earn one of two byes and will play the lowest remaining seed on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Tuominen Yard in Portland.
The second seed and second first-round bye goes to Northwest University after the Eagles earned a 1-0 win over Southern Oregon on Saturday. The Eagles, who hold a record of 10-7-1 overall and 6-2-1 in CCC play, will play the highest remaining seed on Nov. 9 in Kirkland, Wash.
Corban earns the third seed after losing a tiebreaker to Northwest based on conference goals allowed and will host one of two first-round games on Wednesday. The Warriors posted a record of 10-6-2 overall and 6-2-1 in CCC play under head coach Marty Ziesemer.
Southern Oregon also will host a first-round game on Wednesday as the tournament’s fourth seed. The Raiders fell on Saturday at Northwest to finish with a record of 9-5-3 overall and 5-3-1 in conference play.
The Mountaineers of Eastern Oregon take the fifth seed with a record of 5-4-0 in CCC play and 9-4-1 overall, having closed out the regular season with a 2-0 win at home over College of Idaho. Making the tournament for just the second time in school history, EOU will open up postseason play at fourth-seeded Southern Oregon.
The final seed goes to Oregon Tech, who earned a 4-1 victory at Evergreen on Saturday to clinch the playoff berth. The Owls finished the regular season with a record of 7-9-1 overall and 4-5-0 in conference play. OIT will travel to third-seed Corban on Wednesday to open the tournament.
First-round games will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 6 with the two advancing teams traveling to Concordia and Northwest on Nov. 9. The two teams advancing from the semifinal round will meet on Saturday, Nov. 16 at the site of the highest remaining seed. The CCC tournament champion earns the conference’s automatic spot in the 2013 NAIA National Championship. Match times and game coverage links will be posted on cascadeconference.org when finalized.
