Armstrong Scores 17-Straight to Lead Owls over Keelhaulers
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech ran their record to 6-0, as the Lady Owls defeated Cal Maritime 69-39 in day 1 of the Midland Empire Classic tonight at Danny Miles Court.
Oregon Tech got off to a slow shooting night but ended the game at 45.0% (27-of-60), while holding the Keelhaulers to just 23.1% from the floor (15-of-65).
The Owls never trailed, but held just a 9-8 advantage nearly eight minutes into the game.
With the score 20-12, Oregon Tech sophomore forward Tess Armstrong scored 17-straight points in a 17-1 run that pushed the Owls out to a 37-13 lead. The streak included four in a row from beyond the arch, with two baskets from inside and a free throw. The home team took off from there and never looked back.
Holding a 43-17 leading to open period 2, Tech built a 34 point lead, their largest of the game, at 62-28 with eight minutes remaining in the game, and cruised to the 69-39 victory.
In 12 minutes of play Tess Armstrong finished with a career-high 19 points to lead all scorers. Karly Leveque netted 13 points and six rebounds with Kassi Conditt adding eight points in the win. Karissa Dixon and Maria Ramirez ended with six points each with Dixon adding a game-high nine rebounds and five assists.
Tatjana Pitts led Cal Maritime with eight points, followed by six points from Shante Sands.
The Owls close out tournament action versus William Jessup Saturday beginning at 5:30 p.m.
