LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University women’s basketball team scored the first 20 points of the contest against Walla Walla University and never looked back as they defeated the Wolves 112-44 Saturday evening.
The Mountaineers had a strong offensive and defensive start against the Wolves to pull away early. EOU scored the first 20 points of the game and held Walla Walla scoreless for the first seven minutes of the game.
EOU continued to dominate both ends of the court as they held the Wolves scoreless for the final two minutes of the first half. Eastern Oregon held Walla Walla to 18 points in the first half and scored 54 to take a 36 point halftime lead.
The Mountaineers defense continued to dominate and hold the Wolves offense scoreless for stretches in the second half. Walla Walla had four different times in the second half that EOU held them scoreless for three plus minutes.
Eastern Oregon’s offense continued to click in the second half and Brittney Newcomb remained hot shooting the ball. In the second half, Newcomb hit four three pointers and led the Mountaineers with 14 points, in the half.
EOU continued to pull away and scored 112 points, the most points they have scored all season. Eastern Oregon defeated Walla Walla, 112-44.
Newcomb led the way for EOU with 29 points, as she hit seven three pointers in the contest. Lauren Mills scored 14 points. Every EOU player scored in the contest.
EOU returns to action next Friday, Nov. 29 when they face Walla Walla University in the Caldwell Best Western Inn and Suites Lady Classic. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
