Cold Shooting Plagues Oregon Tech
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech hit just 32.4% of their field goals and Southern Oregon pulled away in the second half, as the Owls fell to the No. 4 ranked Raiders in a non-conference men’s basketball game, 75-59, tonight at Danny Miles Court.
Oregon Tech is even on the season at 4-4 and next travels to Ashland to take part in the Flagship Inn Classic hosted by SOU. Southern Oregon, meanwhile, improved to 5-1 on the season.
Tim Weber got the visitors on the board first with a 3-point field goal to open the scoring and SOU led the entire way.
With the Owls down four, 19-15, the Raiders used an 8-2 run over the next four minutes to get some breathing room and lead by double digits, 27-17.
Tech, however, turned around with a 9-2 run of their own and closed to within three points, 29-26, with under a minute remaining in the first period before SOU hit a pair of free throws to close out the scoring, as the Owls would trail 31-26 at intermission.
Tech continued to keep it close, trailing by four points, 38-34 four minutes into the second half. SOU, however, would use an 18-5 push to take control and lead at the midway point by a 56-39 margin.
Oregon Tech would close the gap to 12 points on two occasions, the last with under four minutes remaining but never got it closer, falling to the Raiders by a 75-59 final.
Kyle Waits led the Owls with a team-high 18 points and recorded a double-double with his 11 rebounds. Mihajlo Matic notched 11 points with Duncan Schramm and Josh Johnson coming away with eight points each.
David Sturner led the visitors with a double-double, 19 points and 10 rebounds with Tim Weber coming up with 17 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. Eric Thompson added 14 points and Jordan West 12 for the Raiders.
