EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University men's basketball team defeated Simpson University on Tuesday night, 86-71, for their second victory of the season over the Northern California foe. Four players were in double-figures for the Beacons.

NCU jumped out to a 9-0 lead and was quickly ahead 21-6 with 14 minutes to play in the first half. The Beacons held a 12-point lead, 34-22 with three minutes remaining before going on another 9-0 run to close out the opening period.

After stretching the advantage to 23 points early in the second half, the Beacons slowly let Simpson back in the game as the Red Hawks rallied to within nine, 76-67 with 4:18 remaining. But NCU held on to clinch their fourth straight win.

Head Coach Luke Jackson said, "It's really hard to play a second game against a team like Simpson because they run so much random offense. We rested a lot of guys tonight and I'm proud of our guys for being able to gut it out. Their comeback had just as much to do with our depth and bottom line I'm happy to get the win."

The Beacons (5-1), off to their best start since joining the NAIA in 2006, had a number of strong performances, led by another brilliant showing from senior Spencer Coleman, scoring 34 points and 11 rebounds. Coleman shot 10-for-14 from the field and added a 13-for-17 evening at the charity stripe.

Senior Austin Kuemper (pictured) put on a show in the post with a sturdy 25 points, 18 rebounds and six assists. Coleton Baker and Travis Pacos added 12 points apiece with Pacos throwing in a game-high four steals.

Simpson (1-7) was led by Ian Corrella, scoring 20 points. Dalton Thacker added 16 points and Anthony Williams finished with nine points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Northwest Christian will return to the court on Saturday as they play host to William Jessup University at 7:30 pm. This will be NCU's debut broadcast on AM1450, All Comedy Radio, which will also be available through the Tunein Radio website and smart device App.
