EUGENE, Ore.  – Playing in their first live action in 17 days, the Beacons shook off some rust and outlasted Simpson University on Tuesday night, 76-62 in the Morse Event Center.

Head Coach Liz Turner-Bolton said, "The two-and-a-half week layoff made us pretty rusty and it showed in a lot of ways tonight with our decision making and turnovers. However, we did some good things tonight and defensively we put up a good show. We rotated well on defense and looked sharper than we did in California."

The Beacons (3-3) shot 48% in the game and survived a 23-turnover night, due in large part to the Post play of Tami Brown and Andrea Gloss (pictured) who each produced double-doubles. Brown scored 13 points with a game-high 15 rebounds while Gloss put in 16 points along with 12 boards. NCU finished the night with a 53-40 advantage on the glass.

"Tami is doing some great things," said Turner-Bolton. "She's looking to score and not overpassing and definitely headed in the right direction. Andrea played very well tonight. We've been demanding that she get down the floor and we would reward her with runs to the rim and she's doing great."

Sami Pitts (pictured) led NCU in scoring, hitting a trio of three-pointers on her way to a 17-point night. Coach Turner-Bolton said, "Sami continues to impress me with her decision making. She gets better and better every game and has been our most consistent player."

Allie Kelsey added 13 points in the win while Hannah Frederick chipped in seven points in limited action due to early foul trouble. The referee whistles were getting a work out of their own on Tuesday as both teams combined for 51 foul calls and 64 trips to the free-throw line.

Simpson (5-5) was led by senior Nichole Jones, scoring a game-high 22 points as she shot 9-for-12 from the free-throw line. Jones added six steals. Esther Wofford came off the bench to score 13 while Katie Ratfield finished with six points, seven rebounds and four assists.

The next layoff will not be as extensive for the Beacons, who will hit the hardwood again on Saturday night, taking on William Jessup University at 5:30 pm.
