ASHLAND – Kristen Schoenherr led a hot-shooting Southern Oregon University women's basketball team with 22 points in the Raiders' 95-66 win over the New Hope Christian Deacons on Friday in the first day of the Flagship Inn Classic at Bob Riehm Arena.

Schoenherr's 8-for-12 output from the field helped the Raiders (8-1 overall) hit at 52.8-percent accuracy as a team (38-for-72). Allison Gida turned in 18 points and four assists, Carly Meister had 14 points and Demi Sahlinger dropped off a career-high nine assists.

SOU clung to a 38-36 halftime lead, but extended it after the break by forcing 15 Deacon turnovers and committing just three of its own. New Hope gave the ball away 32 times in all as Schoenherr and Gida led the Raiders with five steals apiece.

Cambie Edwards came off the bench with Sahlinger to deliver a career-best 12 points and four rebounds.

The Raiders also had seven of their 10 offensive rebounds in the second half. They got off 44 shots in the period – 18 more than New Hope.

Jess Logan had 21 points to lead the Deacons (2-7). Taya Harbick recorded 20 points but turned it over 10 times, and Dorian Perkey and Natriana Shorter added 13 points and 10, respectively.

The Raiders have won four straight.

They were facing New Hope for the first time ever, and will see another unfamiliar foe at 5:30 p.m. Saturday against Northwest Indian.
