EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest University Eagles stole the first set, but it was all NCU after that as the Beacons closed out the 2013 home schedule on Saturday afternoon with a victory, 22-25, 25-19, 25-14, 25-18. NCU collected a season-high 15 service aces in the match.
The Beacons (17-8, 10-6 CCC) tied the school record for conference victories with the win, and guarantee themselves a CCC record above .500 for the second straight season. NCU clinched at-least fifth place in the CCC with the win which will equate to their highest finish ever in conference play.
NCU was led by Chandler Gabrio, finishing with 13 kills, five blocks and four service aces. Also posting 13 kills, in her final home game, was senior Maren Mansfield. Mansfield posted a double-double and was one of five Beacons to post double-digit dig totals with ten.
Chelsea McGowan added nine kills and three blocks while Cassidy Winters finished with seven kills and eleven digs, both season highs. Dana McGowan contributed a match-high five service aces and led the team with 19 digs.
Cori Wallace added one more record to her impressive career, topping her own single-season assist mark, which she set as a sophomore. Wallace continued her incredible season running the offense with 44 more assists, bringing her season total to 837, breaking her old record of 833 with at least three matches still to play.
Northwest (7-19, 3-13) was led by Dakota Adams with nine kills and 13 digs. Sarah Stoker finished with seven kills and led all players with seven blocks. Christina Gleb had 25 assists while Leia Roy posted a match-high 21 digs.
NCU returns to action on Friday night, traveling to face The College of Idaho at 7:00 pm to begin the final weekend of the regular season.
