ASHLAND -- The Southern Oregon University women's basketball team grabbed a quick lead and never let go in a 101-73 defeat of Pacific Union in a game that spanned from late Saturday night to early Sunday morning at Bob Riehm Arena.
Sophomore point guard Ashley Claussen dropped 14 points, 12 assists and five rebounds to lead the Raiders, who won handily in both games of their season-opening SOU Women's Tip-Off Classic. They got off the floor at 12:45 a.m. and were scheduled to take a 5 a.m. flight to Idaho for Monday's exhibition game at Boise State.
The Raiders had six players in double figures for the second day in a row. Joining Claussen were Kristen Schoenherr (16), Carly Meister (16), Autumn Durand (13) and Demi Sahlinger (10). Tiani Bradford pulled in a game-high 10 rebounds off the bench.
SOU built an 14-point lead in the first six minutes and it was never less than 11 thereafter. It had a 62-41 advantage on the boards as Durand, Schoenherr and Brenna Anderson chipped in seven apiece.
Pacific Union (0-2) got 16 points and five rebounds from London Robinson off the bench.
