EUGENE, Ore.  – A 1-1 draw with Warner Pacific put a final stamp on the 2013 Northwest Christian University women’s soccer season on Saturday afternoon at Mike Kelly Field.

A senior night celebration turned out to be less than NCU was hoping for as the Beacons learned earlier in the day that their post-season chances had slipped through their fingers when Oregon Tech defeated Evergreen, 3-1 to lay claim to the sixth and final Cascade Collegiate Conference playoff spot.

Instead of playing for post season consideration, the Beacons were left playing for pride and they did so in impressive fashion, outshooting the Knights 16-10 in the double-overtime thriller.

It was Warner Pacific who got on the board first, scoring in the 19th minute when Roxana Gomez found the ball off a corner kick from Hannah Milhollen and fired home a ten-yard strike.

NCU responded quickly in the 24th minute when Maddi Bartholomew hit home an empty-net strike. A combo pass from Mishayla Bertelsen and Stevie Harrison had drawn out WPC keeper Allie Holterman, giving Bartholomew the easy look at the net for her second goal of the season.

After taking the 1-1 score into the second half, the Beacons did all they could to put another goal on the board, outshooting the Knights 10-3 in the second half and forcing Holterman to make three saves.

Holterman finished the night with four saves while NCU sophomore keeper Kristin Fulbright registered three saves to finish off the season.

NCU ends the year with a 4-11-2 record including a 2-5-2 mark in the CCC. The Beacons finish the year in seventh place, just ahead of Warner Pacific who was 2-6-1 in conference, 3-8-1 overall.
