KANSAS CITY, Mo. – In the midst of a record-breaking season, Corban University's freshman goalkeeper Jordan Farr added another award to his trophy case Tuesday when he became the first player in program history to be named National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Defensive Player of the Week twice in the same season according to an announcement by the national office.
"We are really pleased that the NAIA recognized Jordan's outstanding week with this special honor," said Corban head men's soccer coach Aaron Lewis. "Jordan continues to contribute in big ways to our overall team success with his shot stopping, distribution, and leadership from the back."
Farr, who also earned this award on October 1st, became the first player since Will Monsour of Belhaven (Miss.) to win the national award twice in the season season. The first-year Warrior also became the first men's soccer player in school history to be honored nationally on more than one occasion during the same season. Farr joins male student-athletes Jordan Carter (men's basketball), Aaron Franklin (men's soccer), and Eric Fiegi (men's basketball) as national Players of the Week since 2005.
Through 16 games so far this season, Farr has compiled a win-loss record of 10-1-2 overall that included a single-season, school-record 10 shutouts. The freshman goalkeeper set the single-season record for shutouts with a 2-0 victory over Warner Pacific before adding to his own personal best with a pair of shutouts this past weekend against The College of Idaho and Oregon Tech.
In Corban's 2-0 win over C of I, Farr tallied two saves before posting another two saves twenty-four hours later in the Warriors' 1-0 victory over Oregon Tech en route to helping the Warriors close out the home regular season schedule unbeaten for the first time in program history.
The former Cascade High School standout's shutout total of 10 also marks only the second time since 2000 that a Cascade Collegiate Conference goalkeeper has reached double digits joining former Concordia net-minder Garrett Staples, who also accomplished the feat during the 2007 season.
Farr has tallied a team-high 46 saves and allowed only seven goals this season for Corban in over 1,283 minutes between the pipes. Farr's team-leading Goals Against Average (GAA) of 0.49 leads the Cascade Collegiate Conference and ranks second in the NAIA, a mere 0.05 goals per game behind Luka Stojanovic of Oklahoma Wesleyan.
Among the goalkeepers in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, Farr leads all players in four statistical categories that includes Goals Against Average, save percentage (0.868 | 46 saves on 53 chances), shutouts (10), and shutouts per game (0.67). Farr is also the only goalkeeper in the CCC that is not allowing more than one goal per contest.
In the NAIA, Farr sits in a two-way tie for second in Goals Against Average with Brandon Stout of Webber International (Fla.) with the duo sitting behind the nation's leader Luka Stojanovic of Oklahoma Wesleyan (0.45). Farr is also tied for the most shutouts this season among all NAIA goalkeepers with Josh Oldroyd of Bryan (Tenn.) and Chris Erikkson of MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.), as the trio have each registered 10 during the 2013 season.
Both times that Farr has been named Cascade Collegiate Conference Red Lion Defensive Player of the Week, he has followed that up with the national award.
