LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University volleyball team got back in the win column with a sweep, 25-14, 25-11, 25-6, of Corban University on Friday evening.
Casey Loper led the way for the Mountaineers as she recorded a game-high 13 kills. For the game Loper hit .650. Stefani Sorensen followed with eight kills for EOU. Five players tied for the team high on Corban with three kills.
EOU and Corban looked to be in a tight battle in set one as the teams were tied at three. At point EOU scored the next four points, to take a 7-3 lead. The Mountaineers never looked back and built its lead to 12-7.
With the score of, 12-8, the Mountaineers scored the next seven of eight points to take a 19-9 lead. EOU continued to dominate in the first set and took set one, 25-14.
With set two, tied at 1-1, Eastern Oregon scored the next seven points to take an 8-1 lead and never looked back. EOU continued to dominate and after a Taylor Stewart kill the Mountaineers led 13-4.
With EOU ahead by nine, 16-7, EOU scored the next five points, to extend its lead to 21-7. The Warrior and Mountaineers continued to trade points until it was 24-11. A kill by Stewart gave EOU the set, 25-11.
Eastern Oregon scored the first two points in the third set and never looked back. The Mountaineers outscored the Warriors eight to two in the first 10 points of the set. EOU continued to extend its lead and after a Katie Keeney kill the Mountaineers led, 18-5. The Warriors scored its sixth point of the set on an EOU service error and after that the set belonged to EOU as they scored the next seven points to take the set, 25-6 and the match 3-0.
EOU returns to action tomorrow night when they host Northwest Christian University at 7 p.m. Tomorrow is senior night for the Mountaineers. Corban travels Caldwell, Idaho to face College of Idaho at 7 p.m. MT.
