Kristen Schoenherr just missed a triple-double Saturday for SOU.
ASHLAND – A hot-shooting first half allowed the Southern Oregon University women's basketball team to cruise in the second of a 91-81 win Saturday afternoon at Arizona Christian.
The win was the second for the Raiders (4-0 overall) against the Firestorm (2-2) in as many days at Fultz Memorial Gym. Ashley Claussen led the charge again with 15 points on 5-for-8 shooting, six rebounds, four steals and three assists.
She hit both of her 3-pointers in the second stanza, but a majority of the Raiders did their damage in the first when they converted 21 of 40 attempts from the field and took a 54-32 lead into halftime.
Kristen Schoenherr just missed a triple-double with 10 points and career-highs of nine assists and nine rebounds. Carly Meister kicked in 13 points and seven rebounds, Bree Park hit three triples on her way to 13 points and Allison Gida contributed 11 points, four boards and three assists.
The Raiders had a 56-37 rebounding edge, coming down with 19 on the offensive end.
Prayer Branham led Arizona Christian with 29 points but needed 24 shots to get them. She added six assists and four steals while Sarah Beth Hock had 15 points.
This is the third straight season the Raiders have opened with four straight wins.
They'll look to keep streaking next Friday and Saturday at the Lewis-Clark State Tournament in Lewiston, Idaho, where they'll be pitted against the host team and Cal-State San Marcos.
