Concordia earns sixth-straight No. 1 ranking after winning first-ever National Championship

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Concordia (Ore.) sits atop the NAIA Women's Soccer Coaches' Postseason Top 25 Poll, the national office announced Wednesday. After winning the first National Championship in program history, the Cavaliers received all 19 first-place votes and 529 total points to earn their sixth-straight No. 1 ranking.
Concordia ends its season with an overall record of 22-1-1 and on an 18-match win streak. The lone loss of the season for the Cavaliers came on Sept. 15 to Embry-Riddle (Fla.), 2-1. Concordia allowed just seven goals on the season, including one in the national championship semifinals. To win their first national title, the Cavaliers defeated William Jessup (Calif.), No. 13-seeded St. Thomas (Fla.), No. 5 seed Embry-Riddle (Fla.), top-seeded Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) and No. 2 seed Westmont (Calif.).
National runner-up Westmont compiled 512 total points en route to the No. 2 ranking. The runner-up finish was the first for Westmont, which had gone 5-0-0 in its previous National Championship appearances, winning titles in 1985, 1999, 2001, 2002 and 2003. The Warriors end their season 17-2-5.
Semifinalists Lindsey Wilson and Northwood (Fla.) accrued 490 and 483 points, respectively, to earn the No. 3 and No. 4 positions. The Blue Raiders end their season 21-4-0 after a 2-1 double overtime loss to eventual National Champion Concordia (Ore.) in the national championship semifinals. After tying Westmont, 2-2, through two overtime periods in the national championship semifinals, Northwood finishes 17-1-2. Westmont advanced to the National Championship title game over Northwood on penalty kicks, 7-6.
No. 5 Concordia (Calif.) rounds out the top five with 453 points after falling, 2-0, to Lindsey Wilson in the national championship quarterfinals.
Within the poll, Robert Morris (Ill.) made the largest jump, moving up 12 spots, while former-No. 7 Spring Arbor (Mich.) fell eight positions, landing at No. 15.
No. 25 Trinity International was the lone newcomer to the Postseason Top 25 after appearing in its first National Championship since 2001. The Trojans lost, 4-1, to No. 15-seeded Martin Methodist in the National Championship Opening Round. This is the first Top 25 ranking for Trinity International since Oct. 9, 2012.
Fourteen conferences/independent/unaffiliated groups are represented throughout the Top 25, led by four programs from the GSAC–Westmont, Concordia (Calif.), No. 12 Vanguard (Calif.) and No. 18 The Master's (Calif.).
