PORTLAND, Ore. - Whitworth used a 13-2 run in the second half to break open a close game at Warner Pacific, earning a 77-51 non-conference win tonight at Bart Valentine Court.

Back-to-back baskets from Lacy Wood brought WP to within 11 points (54-43) with 10 minutes to play in the contest, but the late surge from the visiting Pirates put the game out of reach.

Whitworth (5-3) scored the first nine points of the game and were in control of the opening action. The Pirates did their damage with offensive rebounding and finished the game with 28, led by KC McConnell with seven. Despite the early struggles, the host Knights (4-8) found some success scoring the ball and battled back to a mere five point deficit (35-29) after a Janelle Weiss jump shot. A pair of free throws allowed Whitworth to take a seven point lead into the locker room.

The teams went toe-to-toe for ten minutes of the second period, but the interior rebounding began to tip the scales to the Pirates while WP committed several turnovers at key moments during the late game run.

Janelle Weiss led Warner Pacific with 14 points on 5 of 11 shooting including two makes from three point range. Lacy Wood added 13 points, while Ali Campbell grabbed a game high 12 rebounds to go along with six points.

Whitworth was paced by Kayla Johnson's 24 points including a 4 of 7 effort from long range. KC McConnell added 20 points and 11 rebounds.

COMING UP: Warner Pacific will resume Cascade Conference play on Saturday, December 21 when rival Concordia visits C.C. Perry Gym.
