Jordan Carter moved into 18th place on Corban's all-time scoring chart Saturday, as he helped the Warriors upset 17th ranked Northwest inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
Quartet Helps Corban Upset No. 17-Ranked Eagles of Northwest

SALEM, Ore. – Corban University snapped an eight-game losing streak against Northwest University, as the Warriors shots nearly 60% from the field en route to earning a hard-fought 67-63 upset win over the NAIA's No. 17-ranked Eagles Saturday inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
Corban (5-6, 2-1 CCC) was led offensively by junior Jordan Carter with a game-high 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field that included a 2-for-4 effort from beyond the three-point line, while three other Warriors – freshman Toby Roth, sophomore Cyrus Ward, and freshman Caleb Herzberg – also scored in double figures with 14, 13, and 11 points, respectively. Senior Josiah Sebens grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, while Roth handed out a game-high 10 assists for the first double-double of his career.
Northwest (11-4, 2-2 CCC) would get a pair of 11-point performances from Dak Shagren and Cody Shackett off the Eagles' bench, while Michael Greene and Michael Russo chipped in with 10 apiece. Greene also led Northwest in rebounds with nine, while Tommy Jordan handed out a team-best four assists.
After Northwest opened the game by scoring the first four points, Corban answered back with seven unanswered en route to securing a three-point lead (7-4) on a lay-in by Roth with 17:49 on the clock. Over the next seven minutes, Northwest used a 14-4 run to secure a seven-point cushion (18-11) after a jumper in the paint by C.J. Carter with 10:08 left. Following Carter's bucket, Corban went on a 21-8 run over a span of nine minutes that resulted in a six-point lead (32-26) on a lay-in by Carter with 72 seconds remaining. Over the final minute of the first half, Northwest scored four unanswered points that included a buzzer-beating, put back lay-in by Shagren that resulted in a halftime score of 32-30 in favor of the home team.
The second half started with Northwest using a 10-2 run over the opening three minutes, as the Eagles took a 40-34 lead after a lay-in by Nemanja Grujicic with just under 17 minutes left. Corban would fight back with a 10-0 run of its own that resulted in a 44-40 lead for the host Warriors after Roth hit back-to-back free throws with 13:40 on the clock. Over the next five minutes, neither team earned more than a three-point lead as the game was tied on four separate occasions with the lead changing hands four times during that stretch. After the game was tied for the ninth and final time at 61-61 on a lay-in by Shackett with 2:38 left, Corban scored three unanswered points on a free throw and jumper in the paint by Ward that resulted in a 64-61 lead for the home team. Northwest would score its final points on a lay-in by Greene with under a minute left before Corban stepped up its defensive pressure getting four defensive rebounds in the final minute, while hitting three free throws for the final difference of four points (67-63).
As a team, Corban combined to shoot 25-for-43 (58.1%) from the field that included a 12-for-20 (60.0%) performance in the second half. The Warriors also connected on 6-of-14 (42.9%) from the beyond the three-point line and 11-of-20 (55.0%) at the free throw line. On the other hand, Northwest was a combined 27-for-66 (40.9%) from the field, 4-of-27 (14.8%) from long distance, and 5-of-8 (62.5%) at the charity stripe.
Both teams will return to action after Christmas, as Corban plays a non-conference game against New Hope Christian on December 28th in Eugene and Northwest takes on Evergreen for its first game in 2014 on January 4th in Kirkland.
