Second Half Surge Lifts Oregon Tech to 78-59 Win Over Concordia
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech used a 14-1 second half push to pull away from Concordia University, as the Owls extended their win streak to 12 with a 78-59 victory over the Cavaliers in Cascade Collegiate Conference play tonight at Danny Miles Court.
The win gets the Owls to 12-0 on the season and with the weekend sweep the Owls move to 2-0 in the CCC standings. Concordia, meanwhile, falls to 1-10 overall and 0-2 in CCC action.
A pair of Lexi Campbell free throws five minutes in gave CU a 7-6 lead, but was short lived as freshman Ashleigh Vandenbrink connected from long range on the Owls’ next possession with Tech holding on to a lead for the remainder.
Tech managed to extend their lead to 21-13, but a scrappy CU team battled back on several occasions, and closed the gap to 21-20 after a 7-0 run.
The Owls next took their largest lead of the first period, 35-23, before taking a nine point cushion 40-31 into the break.
Once again CU continued to attack and with 16:06 remaining pulled to within a possession after a Caitlyn McCutcheon put back made it 45-42. Back-to-back 3-pointers from Karissa Dixon and Ashleigh Vandenbrink sparked a 12-0 run over a three minute span as the home team held a 57-42 edge.
CU got it as close as 14 on two occasions, but the Owls would move out to an insurmountable 21 point lead with under five minutes to play and move on for the 78-59 win.
Karly LeVeque led all scorers with 16 points, followed by Ashleigh Vandenbrink with 14 points in the win. Kassi Conditt finished up with 11 points, five rebounds, four assists and seven blocks on the night. Karissa Dixon continues to do it all as the senior guard nearly reached a triple-double with 10 points, nine rebounds and nine assists. Dixon would add two steals and a block. Mckensey Peters chipped in eight points, four rebounds and two assists for the Owls.
Lexi Campbell led the Cavs with 15 points, followed by Caitlyn McCutcheon’s double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Briannah Smith was the third CU player in double figures with 11 points.
Oregon Tech shot 45.3% from the field on 29-of-64 while holding CU to 32.1% from the floor (18-for-56). Tech recorded 24 assists to just 13 turnovers. CU turned the ball over 18 times with 12 assists with Tech holding a slight edge in rebounding 44-39.
Oregon Tech will next host New Hope Christian this Sunday and Pacific Union College next Tuesday, their last non-conference games of the season, before resuming CCC action on December 20
th and 21
st at College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon University.
