Oregon Tech Pull Away to Defeat Northwest
KIRKLAND, Wash. – After taking a slim 28-26 lead at halftime, Oregon Tech pulled away in the second half to get by Northwest University, 62-48, tonight in Cascade Conference play.
Northwest kept the first half close as the teams battled through three ties and 5 lead changes. Sanda Milovic would give Northwest a 5 point lead, 19-14, after the Eagles tied OIT and forged ahead at the 9:45 mark. But, back came the Owls as they chipped away at the NU lead to regain the lead, 21-19, off Nicole Aboumrad’s 3 pointer with 6:58 to go in the half. NU would come back to tie the game twice in the closing minutes, but Karly Leveque layup would give OIT the lead at 2:19 which they would maintain until the end of the half.
Oregon Tech would maintain their lead the entire second half and would slowly put distance between themselves and the Eagles. Up 39-36, at the 13:43 mark, Tech would go on a 9-0 run capped off by a Leveque jumper to take a 12 point, 48-36 lead. Northwest would cut the lead to 9, 50-41, after freshman Jordan Asher’s trey, but OIT would build their lead back up to 14, 58-44, as Tess Armstrong would get to the rim for a layup with six minutes remaining. The Owls would go on to post their 18
th win of the season against 8 defeats.
Northwest U. (2-22, 1-16 CCC) had two players in double figures: Corinne Burke and Alyssa Dario each scored 11 points for the Eagles. Jordan Asher added 9 points and 5 rebounds. The Eagles shot a respectable 40% for the game, but managed only 17% from the free throw line hitting 1 of 6 attempts.
Oregon Tech (18-8, 11-5 CCC) was led by Nicole Aboumrad and Kassi Conditt who both scored 14 points for the Owls. Conditt also grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double. Tess Armstrong contributed 11 points for OIT who shot 47% for the night (23-49). The Techsters made 6 of 10 three point attempts for 60% and out rebounded NU by a slim, 34-31 margin.
