Yotes Clinch CCC Second Seed with win at CU

PORTLAND, Ore.—Forcing Concordia into 25 turnovers, College of Idaho landed a 69-56 win at Concordia to claim the Cascade Collegiate Conference’s No. 2 seed on Friday.
College of Idaho improved to 18-7 on the season and 14-3 in league play. Eastern Oregon (27-2, 17-0 CCC, ranked No. 3 in the NAIA, sewed up the CCC regular-season title last week. Concordia fell to 11-16 on the season and 5-12 in conference play.
Concordia will host EOU for senior night in the regular-season finale on Saturday night. At a perfect 17-0 in conference play following a 65-50 win at Warner Pacific on Friday, EOU will out a 21-game winning streak on the line while hunting for the first undefeated season in CCC history. Tipoff between the Cavs and the Mountaineers is set for 6 p.m. inside the Cavalier Gymnasium.
College of Idaho will stay in town to face Warner Pacific on Saturday.
After giving up the opening basket, C of I’s Felicity Jones and Laura Geis combined for eight early points to give the Yotes a quick 12-4 lead. With six minutes left in the half, Jones returned with a jumper for a 10-point advantage at 28-18.
The Cavs were able to cut the lead down to five points with two minutes left with a 3-pointer by Malori Dixon, a pair of free throws by Randi McReynolds and a jumper by Kelly Huey, but settled for a 35-27 spread at the break with C of I getting late baskets from Kylie Hardison and Dayne Drager.
The Yotes continued to put distance on the home team in the early stages of the second half. Katelin Shannon connected on a layup with 12:39 on the clock to close a 16-4 to give C of I its largest lead (51-31) of the game.
The Cavs owned the following six minutes of action, compiled a 15-1 spree with Dixon and Huey combined for 12 points. Gabi Beyer capped the rally with a 3-pointer with 8:40 to play to make it a 52-46 contest.
Responding once again late in the half, C of I thwarted any comeback attempts by CU, outscoring the Cavs 17-8 over a six-minute streak of their own to close out the road win.
Jones led C of I with 17 points and was followed by 12 each from Geis and Drager. Dixson led all scorers with 18 points, nine of which came from 3 of 5 shooting from 3-point range.
McKenna Daly scored 15 and grabbed 11 boards for her third ‘double-double’ of her freshman campaign.
College of Idaho outshot Concordia 42.9 percent (27 of 63) to 32.3 percent (20 of 62). Concordia finished with a slight edge in rebounds, 45 to 41.
