Walk-Off Homer Lifts Concordia Past Coyotes, 4-3
BOX SCORE - Concordia vs. College of Idaho
LEWISTON, Idaho—A day after turning a lead-off walk into the game-winning run against Central Washington, Concordia's Ryne Briley
eliminated the need for a baserunner with a walk-off home run to lead off the ninth for a 4-3 win against College of Idaho on Sunday.
The Cavaliers (4-6) rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the latter innings, scoring single runs in the seventh and eighth innings to tie the score. Briley followed, smashing the second pitch of the ninth inning over the wall in left to complete the comeback.
The Yotes (2-6) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the fourth, as a Gregg Simonds single plated a run, with a second run scoring on the play due to a Concordia error.
A Carl Beckert
bases-loaded walk got the Cavs on the board in the fifth, before The C of I answered in the top of the sixth on a Parker Vernon RBI single. C.J. Watson singled in a run in the seventh to get the Cavaliers back within a run, while a Coyote error in the eighth allowed the tying run to score.
Christian Bannister retired all four men he faced in relief to get the win for CU, after starter Alex Bos
went six innings, allowing three runs on eight hits. Michael Garza got a no-decision for the Yotes, allowing a run on three hits, striking out four. Jarel Lewis, making his debut on the mound, took the loss.
Beckert and Briley each had two hits for the Cavaliers in the win - who stranded 14 runners on the afternoon, with Lewis, Simonds, Jesse Dodd, and Sam Johnston each logging two hits for the Yotes.
Concordia returns home next weekend to host a portion of the CCC-NWC Challenge at Porter Park. The Cavaliers will play in five games over four days, beginning with a 5 p.m. tilt against Willamette on Thursday, Feb. 21.
