(Redding, Calif.) – Oregon Tech rallied for two runs in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings. They then rallied again in the bottom of the 10
th inning to score two more times to hand the University of Antelope Valley just their second loss of the season Saturday afternoon at Tiger Field. With the win Oregon Tech improves to 5-5 on the season; the Pioneers slip to 6-2 with the loss.
Antelope Valley took the lead in the top of the first scoring a run on 2-hits. Tech would tie the game at 1 in the 2
nd inning on three base hits, highlighted by Jared Nelson’s two out infield single that scored Spencer Reed from third.
Each team would add a single run in the 5
th inning with the Pioneers taking a 3-2 lead in the top of the 6
th inning.
The Hustlin’ Owls would tie the game at 3 in the bottom of the 7
th inning, taking advantage of a base hit and an error.
Antelope Valley would capture the lead in the top of the 9
th inning scoring 2-runs on 3-hits aided by 2 Oregon Tech errors.
Tech would put on their rally caps in the bottom of the 9
th, scoring two runs of their own on 2-hits, taking advantage of 2-walks and a Pioneer error to force extra innings.
Antelope Valley would take the lead back in the top of the 10
th scoring the go-ahead run on a walk, a hit and an OIT error.
Tech however would rally again in the bottom of the 10
th inning taking advantage of a hit batter, and two errors to load the bases with two outs. Oregon Tech’s Ryan Hayden was then hit by a pitch to bring in Dustin Norman to tie the game at 6. With Dylan Rodgers at the plate and the bases still loaded with two outs, Pioneer catcher Perry Rogan couldn’t handle the next pitch as the ball rolled to the backstop allowing Tech’s Maty Shanks to score the game winning run.
PJ Vanemmerik picked up his first win of the season for Oregon Tech, with Rudy Ramirez getting pinned for the tough luck loss for Antelope Valley.
Oregon Tech’s Alex Reynolds had three hits with Tyson Dahl and Ryan Hayden chipping in two hits each in the win.
Oregon Tech will wrap up weekend play against Simpson University Sunday afternoon at 2:00 pm in Redding, CA.
