ASHLAND –
Southern Oregon limited Northwest Christian to less than 18 percent first-half shooting to build a double-digit halftime lead and held off the Beacons in the second half to earn a 77-65 Cascade Collegiate Conference women’s basketball victory on Senior Night at Bob Riehm Arena.

Southern Oregon closes out the regular season with a 21-9 overall record, and the Raiders will have the fifth seed in this week’s CCC Tournament after finishing the year with a 10-8 mark. Northwest Christian falls to 13-16 overall and 6-12 in conference play. The Raiders will travel to Portland for a Tuesday night tournament matchup with fourth-seeded Warner Pacific at 7 p.m., while NCU will travel to second-seeded College of Idaho for the first round.

The Raiders honored seniors Krysten Copeland, Angelica Cahee, Haley Newell and Molly Doran in a ceremony prior to the men’s game, and Cahee stole the show during the game with a career-best 17 rebounds. The 5-6 guard surpassed her previous career-high total by five rebounds and added 14 points for her third career double-double.

Alexi Smith and Melissa Sweat tied Cahee for the team lead with 14 points apiece, and Smith grabbed 11 rebounds to also earn a double-double. Newell added 10 points as the Raiders overcame its lowest shooting percentage of the season (36 percent on 27-of-75 shooting) to earn the win. Rebounds proved huge for the Raiders, as they out-boarded the Beacons by an astounding 66-to-35.

Lindsey Shearer finished with a game-high 16 points and added nine rebounds for NCU. Katie Collins tallied 15 points and Chandler Gabrio added 12.

The Beacons made only six of 34 shot attempts in the first half as SOU built a 31-19 lead. But the visitors regained their shooting stroke after the break, making 16 of 33 shots (48.5 percent) in the second half to pull as close as eight with 72 seconds to play. The Raiders made all four of their free throw attempts in the final minute to clinch the win.
