EOU Makes History with Perfect CCC Season

PORTLAND, Ore. – The No. 3 ranked Eastern Oregon women's basketball team completed a perfect conference season in the Cascade Collegiate Conference by defeating Concordia, 68-52, Saturday night. The Mountaineers are the first team in history to accomplish this feat.
Tonight's win also extended the Mountaineers' win streak to 22 in a row.
Concordia, playing for their postseason lives stood tied with EOU at 25-25 with 3:54 left to go in the first half on senior night on Saturday, but the Mountaineers took over the game from there, going on to the 16-point win.
The Mountaineers improved to 28-2 overall with the win on Saturday, while their 18-0 record in conference gave them the regular-season conference championship by three games over The College of Idaho.
Eastern will be the #1 seed in the Cascade Conference tournament that starts this Tuesday, February 19th. The Mountaineers will host the #8 seed Corban at 7 pm. Live stats and video will be available at EOUsports.com
The Cavaliers, meanwhile, dropped to 11-17 overall and 5-13 in the CCC with the loss. Saturday’s loss also meant the Cavs lost a tiebreaker with Corban for the eighth and final CCC playoff spot, ending the Cavs 2012-13 season.
A three-pointer from Malori Dixon gave the Cavs a 17-15 lead with 8:49 to go before halftime, while a jumper from Randi McReynolds tied the game at 25 a little bit later.
The Mountaineers finished the half on a 10-2 run, though, then added to their lead with an 11-2 run over the middle part of the second half. The Mountaineers led 61-38 by the end of their second-half run, and did not let the Cavs come any closer than 14 points over the remainder of the game.
The Mountaineers’ defense really gave the Cavs problems in the second half as they held the Cavs to just 26.7 percent shooting after halftime.
Individually, EOU’s Nicole Redd led all players with 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field. Besides her, Brooke Randall and Jorie Freeman also scored in double figures for the Mountaineers with 16 and 13 points, respectively.
Meanwhile, Malori Dixon, who was playing in her last game as a Cavalier, led the Cavs with 17 points in the game. Kelly Huey also capped a tremendous all-around season with a fittingly balanced game, scoring 11 points, while also totaling five rebounds, four assists and four steals.
