La Grande, Ore. - The Eastern Oregon women’s basketball team won their first round home playoff game tonight against Corban University, 81-67, at Quinn Coliseum.
Senior guard Brooke Randall scored 19 of her game-high 25 points in the first half. Randall also had 8 rebounds and 3 assists. Jorie Freeman added 16 points and 6 rebounds while Korrie Bourn contributed with 10 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists.
Corban’s sophomore post Tara Vanweerdhuizen finished the night with 17 points and 10 rebounds while teammate Julia Young added 10 points and 8 rebounds.
Eastern started the game out strong but fell behind midway through the half by 7, 24-17 with 9:50 to play. Eastern then went on a 21-10 run in the last eight minutes of the half to take a 38-34 half time lead.
The Mountaineers shot 14-of-35 (40%) from the field in the first half and 6-of-15 (40%) from behind the arc. The Warriors shot 13-of-26 from the field (50%) and 4-of-6 (66%) from behind the arc.
Eastern used a 10-2 run in the first three minutes of the second half to extend their lead to 12, 48-36. Corban would eventually cut the lead to as little as 8 with 13:50 to play, but that is as close as the Warriors would come for the remainder of contest. The Mountaineers pulled away leading by 17, their largest lead of the game, with 7:50 to play en route to their 81-67 first round playoff victory.
EOU shot 27-of-60 (45%) from the field and 10-of-23(43%) from behind the arc. The Warriors shot 25-of-66 (37%) from the field and 7-of-24(29%) from behind the arc.
