The Cascade Conference’s two automatic spots to the 2013 NAIA Women’s Basketball Championship have already been determined but that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything to play for on Monday night as the Lady Yotes of College of Idaho and the Mountaineers of Eastern Oregon battle it out for the CCC Tournament Championship at Quinn Coliseum in La Grande, Ore.

#1 Eastern Oregon 83, #5 Southern Oregon 55

In the battle of directional Oregon schools, it was the top-seed Mountaineers who climbed past the fifth-seed Raiders, 83-55, on Friday night in La Grande.  The Mounties stormed out to the 36-17 lead and continued to pull away in the second half to advance to the championship game.

Eastern was led by 17 points from Brooke Randall and 13 off the bench from Maloree Moss.  EOU shot 48.4% on the night, making 30-of-62 attempts, including 11 from behind the arc.

#2 College of Idaho 71, #3 Oregon Tech 62

The Lady Yotes advanced to a sixth-straight CCC Tournament Final by holding off Oregon Tech, 71-62.  It was a strong performance at the free throw line that clinched the win for College of Idaho as they hit 24-of-31 attempts en route to the nine point win.

C of I was led by 16 points and  12 rebounds from Felicity Jones.  Dayna Drager added 15 in the win while Chakala Carthen put in 14 points.  Laura Geis picked up the second double/double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The Match-Up

Like every game against CCC competition this year, Eastern Oregon has won both contests this season but they’ve been close.  The Mounties earned a 57-53 win on Jan. 11 in Caldwell before picking up the 60-50 win in the NAIA Game of the Week on Feb. 8 in La Grande.

In tournament play, it is College of Idaho with the winning streak, having earned a 68-49 win last season in Caldwell.  C of I has also clinched the CCC’s second automatic bid to the NAIA Division II National Championships in Sioux City, Iowa by being the highest finishing team outside the regular season champion.  Eastern Oregon clinched the first bid by winning the regular season title.
