Harris Player of the Year, Williams Coach of the Year

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Warner Pacific College collected its second Cascade Collegiate Conference Player of the Year honor in as many days when league’s head coaches chose the Knight’s Stephen Harris as its top player, the conference office announced Wednesday.

The 6-5 senior forward from Hillsboro, Ore. led the CCC rebounding average (10.5 ppg), was third in steals (1.8 spg) and sixth in scoring (15.6 ppg) while averaging 33 minutes played per game. Harris was instrumental in leading the Knights to the CCC Tournament title and a share of the CCC regular-season title. Warner Pacific has earned one of two automatic berths to the NAIA Men’s Division II National Tournament, March 6-14 in Point Lookout, Mo.  Southern Oregon gained the other national berth by reaching the CCC Tournament final against Warner Pacific.

Defender of the Year award will go to Eastern Oregon’s Michael Crane.  Becoming a starter for the Mountaineers mid-way through the season, Crane is matched up with the opponent’s top scorer each night. Since becoming a starter, Crane is shooting over 65 percent and hauling in over 4.5 rebounds per game.

Southern Oregon’s David Sturner was selected as 2012-13 Newcomer of the Year. The Raiders’ 6-foot-8 center from Philomath, Ore., nearly averaged a double-double on the season with 13.6 points and 9.2 rebounds per game in his 33 contests played this season.  Sturner joined the Raiders after a stint at Oregon State University.

Isaac Williams of Eastern Oregon University was selected the CCC’s Coach of the Year after leading the Mountaineers to a share of the CCC regular season crown with Warner Pacific.  EOU began the 2012-13 campaign winning 26 of the first 27 contests and spent five weeks at No. 1 in the NAIA coaches’ poll. EOU’s current rank of fourth should guarantee them a spot in the National Championship field.

Others named to the 12-person All-CCC team included: Taylor Pruett, College of Idaho; Adam Herman, Concordia; Anthony Brown, Trent Roos and Jason Mumm of Eastern Oregon; Michael Greene and Michael Russo of Northwest; Oregon Tech’s David Clarke; Southern Oregon’s Eric Thompson, and Doug Thomas of Warner Pacific.

Twelve players earned honorable mention All-CCC honors: Jordan Buhler, Northwest Christian; Ryan Dornik, Northwest; J.D. Esters, Eastern Oregon; Andrew Evans, Corban; Antonio Garrett, College of Idaho; Frankie Johnson, Evergreen; Willy Ligon, Concordia; Trevor Parker, Northwest Christian; Ryan Parks, Warner Pacific; Josiah Sebens, Corban; Coletun Tarr, Warner Pacific; Kyle Tedder, Southern Oregon.
