EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University women’s basketball team hung tough with Warner Pacific early on Saturday night before falling to the Knights, 65-52. WPC, currently receiving votes in the NAIA National coaches poll, out-rebounded the Beacons 46-30 to help survive a 22-turnover evening.
Warner Pacific shot 40% from the field while NCU managed a 38% clip. The Knights went 7-for-21 from three-point range while holding NCU to just 3-for-15 perimeter shooting. The Beacons were 0-for-5 from long distance in the second half.
The Knights (16-9, 11-4 CCC) were led by Nichole Jackson, scoring 14 points and six assists. Chelsey Christensen added 12 points. The conference’s leading scorer was in foul trouble for most of the evening and saw just 20 minutes on the court. Tori Carroll added four points for WPC but led all players with 13 rebounds.
NCU (13-13, 6-9) was led by Katie Collins, scoring 12 points. Tami Brown came off the bench to score eleven, adding a pair of blocks. Lindsey Shearer was held to just nine points while leading the Beacons with ten rebounds and five assists.
Warner Pacific will return to action on Saturday night, traveling to Salem to take on Corban University. The Beacons play host to Concordia. Both games are scheduled for 5:30 pm tip-offs.
