Jackson Wins Sprint Double; Cavs Hit Five CCC Qualifying Marks in Outdoor Opener
OREGON CITY, Ore.—Starting the outdoor season with a small contingent after participating in a taxing indoor championship last week, the Concordia track & field team notched five CCC Championship qualifiers at the Clackamas Open, held at Oregon City High School on Saturday.
Sprinter DeAndre Jackson posted two of the team’s five entry marks to the conference championship with wins in the 100- and 200-meter dashes.
Jackson won the 100 with an 11.38 and returned to take the 200 with a 22.77, a personal best as a Cavalier. Jackson’s previous best in the half-lapper was a 22.92 set at the 2012 Cougar Open.
Freshman Roman Kirkov registered the teams only other individual win on the day with a 4:08.45 in the 1,500 but notched a CCC qualifier in the 800 with a 1:57.72 while crossing in second place. Fellow Cavalier Nick Wilson set a collegiate best in the event with a 2:02.88, erasing his previous best of 2:03.99 set at the Pacific Twilight in 2012.
Maxwell Waters and Stephen Walter recorded the final two qualifiers with Waters taking third place in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.14 and Walter earning runner-up honors in the javelin with a throw of 161-1 (49.09m).
The Cavaliers will continue to roll out its roster next weekend as the team will split its squad on March 16 between the University of Oregon Preview at Hayward Field and the Wildcat Open at Linfield College in McMinnville.
