ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Central Washington’s pitchers kept the Northwest University bats quiet today, giving up a total of 5 hits, as they shut out the Eagles twice, 5-0 and 8-0 in a non-conference doubleheader on Frederick Field this afternoon.
In game 1, the Wildcats from the GNAC scored a run in each inning with the exception of the top of the 5th for the 5-0 shutout. CWU pitcher Maria Gau spun a 2 hitter as Northwest was unable to produce any runs. The Eagles did have two hits and left two runners on base in the top of the 4th inning before a line out would end the potential scoring opportunity. Lynzee Halcott and Hannah Ganfield had the two hits for the Eagles.
Game 2: Central Washington’s 13 hit attack would produce 8 runs while Northwest struggled again to get on base. CWU starting pitcher, Heidi Wells would only give up 3 hits in 5 innings as Kimberly Kocik would come in for one inning and hold the Eagles hitless. Vanessa Ahrendt would go 2 for 3 for Northwest and Hannah Ganfield would get the other hit for NU. Central Washington would score 3 runs in the first inning on 3 hits and 3 errors and another 3 runs in the bottom of the  5th with 3 runs on 4 hits and 2 NU miscues.
Northwest U. will resume conference play this weekend as they make the long road trip to Ashland and Klamath Falls, Oregon, to take on Southern Oregon and Oregon Tech on Friday and Saturday.
