LACEY, Wash. – St. Martin’s 24 hit day and solid pitching limited Northwest University to 5 hits in two games as they swept a non-conference doubleheader this afternoon, winning 10-0 and 11-4.

GAME 1: Two big innings and solid pitching helped St. Martin’s blank the NU Eagle 10-0 in the first game of a doubleheader this afternoon in 5 innings.

The Saints scored 4 runs in the bottom of the first inning on five hits and erupted for 5 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning as Sam Munger limited NU to just one hit for the game. Ricki Tacdol got the lone hit for the Eagles who committed 3 errors on the day.

Kelli Peckham was on the mound for Northwest (2-7) and gave up 8 hits and 10 runs. Sam Munger got the win for St. Martin’s (8-5) as she struck out 5 and walked 4. SMU’s Taviah Jenkins went 3 for 3 to lead the Saints who had 8 hits for the game.

Game 2: The Eagle bats came alive in the second game of their doubleheader today as Lauren Robinson and Hannah Ganfield hit home runs for NU, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Saints from St. Martin’s used a 16 hit attack to down the Eagles, 11-4.

Robinson lifted her solo shot over the right field fence in the top of the 3rd inning while Ganfield, pitch hitting for Ashley Curtis, hit her round tripper over the center field fence on a 3-2 count in the 6th inning. Sandra Cleveland and Lynzee Halcott had the other base hits for the Eagles. Aubree Pocklington homered for St. Martin’s and went 3 for 4 with two RBIs for the game.

Taylor Bakos got the win for the Saints (9-5) on the mound as she allowed four hits, struck out three and only gave up one base on balls. Vanessa Ahrendt pitched 6 innings for the Eagles (2-8) giving up 11 runs on 16 SMU hits.

“Although we came out on the wrong end of the scores, we had some great moments,” said John Bacon, Eagle head coach. “Two home runs and several hits through the day were great to see. We definitely have seen game over game improvement.”

The Eagles will now prepare for their home opener and first Cascade Conference games in NU softball history when they host Corban and Northwest Christian on Friday and Saturday at Everest Park in Kirkland.
