(KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.) – Alyssa Davis hit a first inning grand slam homerun and Oregon Tech set a school record with 4 more homeruns and 8 total runs in the 4th inning to earn a Cascade Conference double-header split with Southern Oregon University 7-4, and 12-1, Tuesday afternoon at the OIT Softball Complex.

Oregon Tech improves to 26-9 on the season and 10-4 in the CCC with Southern Oregon moving to 12-13 and 8-4 in CCC play.

In game 1, SOU scored 3 runs in the first inning, taking advantage of  2-hit batters and 3-hits to take an early 3-0 lead.

Oregon Tech would threaten to score in each of the first three innings but SOU starting pitcher Sydney White would not break, getting OIT to strand 5 runners in scoring position.

The Raiders would add to their lead with a run in the third and two more runs in the 4th inning to lead 6-0 heading into the bottom of the 6th inning.

Oregon Tech would finally break through on the scoreboard when Taylor Schmidt hit her second homerun of the season to make it a 6-1 game.

SOU would add a run in the seventh inning to lead 7-1.

OIT made things interesting in the seventh inning, scoring two runs with only 1-out but White was able to squash the Hustlin’ Owl rally, getting two ground-outs to pick up the win improving to 7-4 on the season.

Oregon Tech Starting Pitcher Taylor Schmidt had one of her shortest outings of the year, going just 3-innings, giving up 6-runs (4-earned) on 6-hits as she fell to 16-3.

Southern Oregon was led by Ashley Lowe who had 3-hits and 2-RBI with Alexa Gonzalez adding 2-hits.

Oregon Tech was led by Jess Plummer and Sara Coates as they each picked up 2-hits in the loss.

In game 2, SOU Starting Pitcher Chelsea Talbert walked the bases loaded and with only 1-out, OIT freshman Alyssa Davis launched her 7th homerun of the season and her second grand slam of the year to give OIT the early 4-0 lead.

That score would hold until the fourth inning when SOU would finally get to OIT Starting Pitcher Melissa Logan. The Raiders scratched across a single run on 2-hits taking advantage of an OIT error to make it a 4-1 ballgame.

Oregon Tech would erupt for 8-runs on 7-hits including a school record 4-homeruns in the bottom of the fourth. Ashley Sfetku would start things off for OIT, hitting her 2nd homerun of the season. After a walk and a single, McKenzie Shrum would hit her fourth homerun of the season to deep left field to give OIT an 8-1 lead. After Plummer doubled, Sara Coates would break the game wide open, hitting her fourth homerun of the year, making it a 10-1 game. Elise Goodell hit a pinch hit single and that allowed Melissa Logan to hit the record breaking fourth homerun of the inning, her 8th on the year, giving OIT the 12-1 lead.

SOU would go down quietly in the fifth inning as the game ended 12-1 via the mercy rule.

Logan pitched all 5 innings for OIT spreading out 6-hits over 5-innings to pick up her first win of the year improving to 1-0.

Talbert was pegged with loss falling to 2-4 for SOU.

Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon will return to action next weekend, April 5th and 6th hosting Eastern Oregon and College of Idaho.
