Mountaineer Men Fall in 1st Round NAIA Nationals

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. - #8 Eastern Oregon University suffered a hard loss to unseeded Midland, 77-53, in Game 2 of the 22nd Annual NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Championship. The 2013 event is being held at the Keeter Gymnasium on the campus of College of the Ozarks (Mo.).
 
Senior Jason Mumm led the Mountaineers (28-5, 15-3 CCC) with 18 points and 6 rebounds; Zach Anderson added with 11 points and 4 rebounds. Trent Roos led the Mounties with 3 assists.
 
Midland (20-12, 12-8 GPAC was led by Galen Gullie with 21 points and 2 rebounds. Teammate Ben Imig had 11 points and 9 rebounds, while James Parrott added 9 points and 11 rebounds.
 
The Mountaineers shot 8-of-31 (25%) from the field and 3-of-14 (21%) from behind the arc, while MU shot 13–of-27 (48%) from the field and 3–of –8 (37%) from behind the arc. Although EOU led 22-18 with 8 minutes to play in the first half, Midland would go on a 19-3 run to head into the locker room up 37-25.
 
The Mountaineers continued to struggle from the field after the break and Midland extended the margin to as many as 31 in the second half. The Warriors outscored the Mountaineers’ 28-40 in the half en route to a 77-53 victory .
 
Eastern finished 19-of-63 (30%) from the field and 4-of-26 (15%) from behind the arc. Midland shot 26-of-51 (51%) from the field and 7-of-14 (50%) from behind the arc.
 
Midland will advance to the Sweet Sixteen to play unseeded York w defeated #9 Davenport (Mich.) in overtime in the first game of the tournament.
