Beacons Take Two from Eagles
KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest Christian University swept two games from the NU Eagles 12-7 and 9-5 under sunny and warm weather today at Everest Park.
Game 1: After a four run first inning by Northwest Christian, Northwest U. came back in the bottom of the 2nd to put 5 runs on the board, 4 of which were on a grand slam home run by the Eagles Vanessa Ahrendt. Ahrendt hit a 2-1 count over the right center field fence to help give NU the 5-4 lead. NCU came back in the top of the 3rd with 2 runs on 4 hits. The Beacons put some insurance runs on the scoreboard with 3 more runs in the 4th inning as Melissa Webster hit a 2 run double to left field and she eventually scored on another double, this one by Chelsea Hannon. Parker Bonife put the capper on the game with her 3 run HR in the top of the 7th. NCU’s Sarah Lawhorn came in on relief and got the win going 5 innings giving up 2 runs on 6 hits.
Game 2: The teams were scoreless in the first two inning and then Northwest Christian erupted for a 5 run 3rd inning on three Northwest errors and a 3 run home run by catcher Gabby Stover. Bonife and Randi Kostner scored on the round tripper by Stover. Devon Murphy scored on an error after she singled and Laynee Bevans scored on another NU miscue.
Northwest U. answered in the bottom of the 3rd with 4 runs on 4 hits as Lauren Robinson singled in Vanessa Ahrendt and Holly Entus. Sarah Cleveland singled driving in Ashley Curtis and Sarah Payne singled to right field scoring Robinson. NCU got 2 more runs in the 4th inning as Kostner and Bevans scored on a NU error. The Beacons added two more in their half of the 5th and Northwest U. managed to score in the bottom of the 5th as they string together singles by Ricki Tacdol, Sarah Cleveland and Amanda Matthews.
Northwest Christian improves to 4-8 overall and 2-2 in conference play while Northwest U. drops to 2-12 and 0-4 in CCC play.
