PARKLAND, Wash. - The Northwest Universtiy Eagles opened their outdoor track & field season today with a bang today at the Pacific Lutheran University Invite with some top finishes.

Sprinter Jonathan Melton won the men’s 100m dash as he topped the field of 18 runners with his time of 11.24. He added a second place finish in the 200m dash with a time of 22.90. Luke Fischer won the men’s javelin with a season opening 57.18m (187’-07”) toss to best 8 others in the event. Jonathan Ferguson, who just returned from the NAIA indoor nationals in Ohio, took second in the 1500m run with a time of 4:03.29, just one second behind the first place finisher, John Wojtech of Central Washington.

For the Eagle women, Ericka MCDaniel took 5th in the 200m dash crossing the line in 26.88. In the 800m run, Meagan Governor, Joanna Sowers and Emily Sears finished 5, 6 and 7. Governor finished with a time of 2:26.75; Sowers came in at 2:29.16; and Sears in at 2:31.79. Sears then came back in the 1500m run and took 4th place with a time of 5:00.36 and just edged out teammate Governor by a mere .37 seconds as Meagan ran a 5:00.73. Sigrid Thoreson was 12th in the event with her time of 5:13.20. The 4X400m relay consisting of Ericka McDaniel, Joanna Sowers, Emily Sears and Meagan Governor were 3rd in a time of 4:20.19. Corinne Burke, coming off basketball season, took 2nd in the javelin with a distance of 36.39 (119-05) and a 3rd place finish in the shot put with a throw of 11.62m (38-01.50).
