La Grande, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon softball team split games with Corban Friday afternoon at Peggy Anderson Field by a score of 3-2 and 0-6.
In game 1, Eastern (12-24, 3-16 CCC) would be the first on the scoreboard as Sarah Jackson homered to center field in the bottom of the second. The Warriors (28-9, 13-2) answered back in the 3rd and 4th scoring a run in each inning giving them a 2-1 lead.
Trailing in the bottom of the 6th, the Mountaineers’ Katie Martell singled up the middle bringing Rachell Hatzell home. The Mountaineers took a 3-2 lead on an error by the Warriors which brought Martell home for the final run of the game giving Eastern their third conference win of the year.
Stephanie Nippert led the Warriors going 1 for 2 at the plate with 1 RBI, while teammate Erica Fitzgerald went 1 for 2 at the plate with 1 RBI.
Jackson led the Mounatineers going 1 for 2 with 1 RBI. Martell went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI.
Corban dominated in game 2 as the Warriors didn’t allow Eastern to score a single run. In the bottom of the third inning Nippert homered with 2 runners on base giving the Warriors a 3-0 lead.
Nippert, would again homer to lead off the fifth followed by a Rachel Conrad homerun two batters later that would bring Chyna Sandhop home. The Mountaineers struggled at the plate in game 2 as they only recorded 3 total hits.
Martell led the Mountaineers going 2 for 3 at the plate while Mariebeth Watanabe went 1 for 2.
The Mountaineers will be in action again tomorrow as they host Northwest Christian. Game time is scheduled for 11 a.m. Live stats will be available at EOUSports.com.
