NEWBERG, Ore.—Striking for six early runs, the Concordia handed George Fox a 9-6 loss in non-conference baseball action played at Morse Field on Tuesday.
 
With the win, Concordia improved to 17-18 on the season. George Fox, ranked No. 17 in NCAA DII, fell to 19-8. Concordia defeated the Bruins 13-0 in an earlier matchup played at CU’s Porter Park.
 
Concordia will return to action on Friday when it entertains No. 6-ranked Lewis-Clark State College (Idaho) for the beginning of a four-game series at home at Porter Park.
 
Opening pitch on Friday is set for 6 p.m. while the two teams will begin a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m. The fourth and final game of the series is slated to begin at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
 
Sheldon Austria sparked the CU offense from the opening at bat with a leadoff double down the left-field line. Following a Cole Shidaki walk, Ryne Briley and Carl Beckert tallied RBI swings with Briley singling to center to plate Austria and Beckert grounding out to first which allowed Shidaki to score from third.
 
Two innings later, the Cavaliers batted around to score four runs with Briley delivering the key hit, a one-out double to left which scored C.J. Watson and Shidaki.
 
George Fox scored a single run in the fifth and three more in the sixth, two of which via a home run from Emmett Ackerland, to cut the deficit to 6-4. The Cavs, however, regained their advantage with three runs in the top of the seventh with back-to-back RBI singles from Jordan Keeker and Elliot North.  
 
CU starter Ryan Garrett earned the win after pitching the first three frames in a predetermined inning count. Garrett allowed just one hit in the second before retiring the side in the third. Gage Aker allowed one run on two hits while being tabbed for the next two innings.
 
Brandon Mossholder, Blake Evetts and Christian Bannister combined for the final four stanzas.
 
Overall, the Cavs outhit GFU 10 to 9 while both teams committed one error.
