RESULTS: Men/Women

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. -
15 athletes from six schools got an early start on the 2013 Cascade Collegiate Conference Track & Field Championships as Oregon Tech hosted the first day of competition for the multi-event portions of the meet at John F. Moehl Stadium.

Day 2 of the competition begins at 9 a.m. and kicks off with the men’s 110-meter hurdles.  The women open the final day with the long jump beginning at 9:15 a.m.

Through four events of the heptathlon, College of Idaho’s Jasmine Sibert leads after day 1 with 2588 total points, followed by Katey Choukalos of Oregon Tech with 2488 points.  Southern Oregon’s Amelia Maguin holds down third place with 2368 and trailing in fourth is Corban’s Becca Cox (2205).  Rounding out the scoring is Nicole Leaf (2184) of Southern Oregon along with Corban’s Christy Mosier (2122) and Jenny Harman (1980).

For the men, Austin Basterrechea from College of Idaho leads the field of eight competitors with 3750 points, after winning four of the day’s five events.  Southern Oregon’s Brandon Ritchie trails the top spot by 455 points with Ryan Rosenau of Eastern Oregon in third overall (3142) and Corban’s Jordan Hatfield with 3105 in fourth.  Rounding out day 1 is Oregon Tech’s Anthony Padilla (2778), the Corban pair of Taylor Watkins (2649) and Mark Schearer (2576) and Nathan Stecker of Warner Pacific (2207).  

In the women’s competition, Sibert won two events, including the day’s first event in dominating fashion, with a 14.79 second time in the 100 hurdles.  Second place in the opening event in 16.01 seconds was Amelia Maguin.  Sibert, in second place after three events, regained the overall lead after clocking in at 25.98 in the day’s final event, the 200 meter dash.  Maguin followed in 26.04 seconds and taking third was SOU’s Nicole Leaf (27.26 seconds).

Chaukalos led the field after three events, including a top finish in the high jump (1.58m / 5-2.5 feet), before finishing the day in second place overall in the field of seven competitors.  Corban’s duo of Becca Cox  and Jenny Harman went 1.49 meters in the high jump to tie for second in the event.  Chaukalos finished second in the shot put (10.81m) and was third in the 100 hurdles in 17.15 seconds. 

Corban’s Christy Mosier was the third event winner with a mark of 12.66 meters (41-6.5 feet) in the shot put.  Southern Oregon’s Nicole Leaf finished third in the shot put event with a mark of 10.81m.

In the decathlon, SOU’s Brandon Ritchie took the opening event, the 100 meter dash, in 11.36 seconds, followed by Ryan Rosenau (11.64 seconds) and Austin Basterrechea in 11.68 seconds.

Basterrechea would go on to win the next four events, regaining the lead after a long jump mark of 6.92 meters, and finishing the day with a 48.72 second 400 meter race.  Basterrechea also captured the shot put (11.58 meters / 37-12 feet) and the high jump (2.03 meters / 6-8 feet).

Ritchie recorded 639 points in the long jump, followed by Hatfield with 637.  The same duo would swap spots in the shot put with Hatfield taking second place with a mark of 11.56 meters with Ritchie following up with an 11.01 meter showing.

Eastern Oregon’s Ryan Rosenau began his climb up the overall standing in the day’s fourth event with a second place in the high jump (1.82 meters) and closed out the day clocking in at 51.72 seconds in the 400 meter race.
