No. 13 Oregon Tech Sweeps College of Idaho
(KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.) – No. 13 Oregon Tech swept a Cascade Conference double-header from College of Idaho winning game 1, 4-3 on a Jess Plummer walk-off solo home-run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Tech won game 2, 9-4 as Rylee Carleton picked up her second win of the day in the circle giving up just 3-earned runs on 6-hits while striking out 6. Oregon Tech improves to 30-9 on the season and 14-4 in CCC play. College of Idaho slips to 6-10 in CCC play and 20-20 on the season with the loss.
In game 1, College of Idaho got to Oregon Tech starting pitcher Taylor Schmidt for 3-runs in the top of the second inning on 4-hits, highlighted by a McKensie Stanton double.
Tech would answer with a run in the bottom of the frame, to make it a 3-1 game, taking advantage of 2-hit batters, a single and a sacrifice fly.
The 3-1 score would hold until the bottom of the sixth inning when Shauna Collins tied the game at 3, as she hit a line drive 2-run home-run to left center field scoring Kaitlyn Anderson from second base, Anderson led off the inning with a double off the center field fence.
Oregon Tech’s Rylee Carleton gave up a leadoff walk in the top of the seventh, but then got the next Yote batter to hit into a perfectly executed 6-4-3 double play and a fly out to end the inning.
Oregon Tech’s Jess Plummer would send the home crowd home happy, as she hit her team leading 13
th home-run of the season, a line-drive over the right-center field fence to give Oregon Tech a 4-3 win. It was the second game in a row Oregon Tech had won in walk off fashion as Taylor Schmidt hit a walk-off in game 2 of Friday night’s win against Eastern Oregon.
Rachel Strong had 2-hits to lead the offense for College of Idaho.
Nickayla Skinner picking up the loss in the circle to fall to 13-7 on the season for the Yotes, giving up 4-runs on 7-hits.
Rylee Carleton picked up the win for OIT pitching 2 shut-out innings improving her record to 10-6.
Ashley Sfetku had 2-hits to lead the Oregon Tech offense.
In game 2, Oregon Tech took control early scoring 5-runs off starting pitcher Cortni Pena in the bottom of the first inning then held on for the 9-5 win.
After C of I went down in the first inning, Oregon Tech scored 5-runs in the bottom of the frame, taking advantage of 2-walks, 2-wild pitches, an error and 4-hits highlighted by a Taylor Schmidt double to lead 5-0.
College of Idaho scratched across a run in the top of the second inning on 2-walks and 2-singles to make it a 5-1 game.
Oregon Tech added a run in the third inning as Alyssa Davis hit her 8
th home-run of the year to make it a 6-1 game.
Each team added a run in the fourth inning to make it a 7-2 game.
College of Idaho made things interesting in the top of the fifth inning, scoring twice to make it a 7-4 game. However, with 2-runners on and only one out, Carleton was able to strike-out the next two hitters to end the threat.
Oregon Tech added a run in the bottom of the fifth on Taylor Schmidt’s 4
th home-run of the season to make it an 8-4 game. Then added another run in the 6
th to lead 9-4.
College of Idaho would add a run in the top of the seventh on back to back two out doubles by Molly Mills and McKensie Stanton to make it 9-5. Tech’s Carleton was able to settle down and retire the last hitter on line-out to pick up her second win of the day and improve her record to 11-6.
Shauna Collins, Sara Coates, Melissa Logan and Taylor Schmidt all had 2-hits to lead the Oregon Tech offense.
Alexis Macias had 3 hits with Stanton collecting 2-hits to lead C of I.
Pena pitched 6-innings giving up 11-hits, 9-runs (5 earned) to pick up the loss to fall to 7-12 on the season.
